Susan Hutchison studied Illustration and Printmaking at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee from 1986-1990.
Following graduation, Susan worked as a freelance illustrator for a number of years in conjunction with Agent Graham-Cameron Illustration. During this time, she completed a number of commissions including individual and full book illustration for publishers such as Scholastic, Oxford University Press and Orchard.
She also has experience of illustration for Commercial Advertising for large companies such as; Tesco, Baillie Marshall and Derek Keillor as well as Public Art Commissions including museum and art gallery illustrations for a permanent local history exhibition for Dundee City Council.
Susan recently started combining fine art painting with teaching art & design in secondary education. She has exhibited her work at exhibitions including The Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Art , 516 Gallery, By Distinction Art and has several pieces of work in private collections.
Based in rural Perthshire, in the Carse of Gowrie, Susan's paintings reflect the surroundings in which she lives, in particular the characters of the many different varieties of sheep found on farms in this area. She particularly enjoys capturing their unique characters, using detail, manipulating the paint to achieve each 'portrait'.
