Janet was an Arts and Crafts teacher for many years before deciding to focus on the development of her own work. She is now painting full time, after several years of studying with The Open College of the Arts and at Leith School of Art. She particularly enjoys depicting the moving figure, with her main theme being Scottish dancing. Using collage, paints, oil pastels and inks she builds up layers of vibrant colour to capture the unique look of the tartan and the exuberant movement of the dancing. Her aim is to bring images of Scottish Dancing to life, as something that we all enjoy and to invoke a sense of pride and nostalgia while putting a modern twist on these ancient, traditional dances.
Originally from Lanarkshire, Janet now lives in East Lothian and works from a studio in her home.
