Mairi Stewart was born in Scotland. She studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, tutored by Elizabeth Blackadder and Victoria Crowe. She graduated in 1977 and following a successful teaching career, left teaching in 2009 in order to paint professionally. She now works full time from her studio in Edinburgh.
Mairi enjoys the endless possibilities of balancing Colour and Shape in her carefully considered compositions and finds a constant source of inspiration from her surroundings. The work is a narrative of her daily observations and imagination and she works mainly in Acrylics and mixed media on Canvas or Board. Using Pattern and a strong colour palette, Mairi strives to capture the essence of the original memory in her work.
Mairi is an Artist member of PAI and exhibits her work in Galleries throughout the Uk. She has work in many private collections in UK, Europe and USA.
