Scottish artist Jennifer MacKenzie, originally from Coatbridge, Golspie, graduated from Glasgow school of Art and went on to teach Art and Design in schools throughout Scotland. Since leaving teaching in 2001 Jennifer has been a full time professional artist.
Jennifer’s paintings are very much a response to her environment, and she is most interested in the nuances of colour, light and space. Inspired by her time at GSA training under the likes of William Drummond Bone, Sandy Goudie and David Donaldson, she also retains a strong connection to the traditions of Scottish fine art painting.
Working on canvas in oils, Jennifer’s still lifes are rich in colour and form and her ability to capture the complexities of light and shadow is delightful in its execution. Her still life arrangements often make a nod to her interest in the Scottish Colourists, with a small postcard featuring a Cadell or a Peploe often sitting next to flowers and fruits.
