Scottish artist Marion Thomson studied Drawing and Painting at Glasgow School of Art before completing an MA in History of Fine Art, Drama, Film and Television. She worked for almost twenty years as a costume designer in theatre, film and television while continuing to paint. Marion now enjoys painting full time from her home just outside Glasgow.
Marion paints both still life and land and sea scapes, working mainly in oils. She spends a lot of time travelling to the West Coast of Scotland and its islands, choosing to sketch and paint as much as possible in situ in order to commit the experience to memory. Back in the studio she works on larger canvases over a period of days or weeks until she is happy with them.
Marion’s palette is both striking and instantly recognisable. Her seascapes are especially evocative, with the warmth of white sand striking a contrast with the almost Mediterranean blues and greens so often found on Hebridean coastlines on those special days of summer in Scotland.
