Alex McCarthy

Alex McCarthy graduated from Cardiff School of Art and Design in 2010. In the years since, he has gone on to acquire a strong following with his uniquely textured designs. He now lives and works in Bristol.

Taking his inspiration from organic forms such as tree bark, natural rock, cracking paint and even marine life, he uses the thrown vessel as a way of exploring these surfaces. No two pieces of Alex’s work are the same, something which is entirely intentional. Each item is fired several times at different temperatures. This gives him the opportunity to re-fire and add more oxide or lustre if necessary. He intends for the viewer to interact with the work through touch and feel the pot’s journey from raw material to art object.
