Alison Cowan
Alison Cowan
Based in Bothwell, Lanarkshire, Alison Cowan studied at Glasgow School of Art in the mid-seventies. She moved on to a career as a teacher before focusing fully on her career as a Fine Art painter.
Trees are a continued source of inspiration in Alison’s compositions. She is fascinated by the way branches weave and intertwine, their appearances changing with the seasons. Her work seeks to capture the mystery and magic of woodland places.
Alison’s paintings are not representative of specific locations and tend to be a combination of real and remembered elements. Colour has a guiding role in her work and using the quick drying medium of acrylic on canvas allows her to work with palette knives to create layers of thick paint in vibrant, contrasting hues to evoke the natural interplay of light and shade.
