Scottish artist David Martin was born in 1922 and died 2018. He studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1940-42, going on to teach art for many decades. A move from teaching art in the early 1980s allowed David to concentrate full time on painting. An artist’s artist, his work is highly regarded among his peers.
David was the recipient of many prestigious art awards including the Robert Colquhoun Memorial Prize, the May Marshall Brown art award and The Mabel Mackinley Art Award. He was elected a Member of Scottish Artists in 1991 and an Honorary Member of Society of Scottish Artists in 1993.
Regarded by many as one of the finest still life and landscape painters having worked in Scotland in the past 100 years, David Martin’s work is held in many major collections including The Arts Council of Scotland, The City of Edinburgh Art Collection, Perth Museum and Art Gallery, The Dick Institute, Kilmarnock, Robert Fleming and Company Ltd, Linklaters and Paine, Lord MacFarlane, The Earl of Moray, Credit Lyonnais Bank, Warburg Asset Management and the Clydesdale Bank.
