Jane Cruickshank
Born in 1976, Jane studied Fine Art at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, and completed her Master of Arts degree in 1999. Since then she has won numerous awards and scholarships including the Cooper and Lybrand Competition in 1996, the John Kinross Scholarship to Florence in 1997 and the James Torrance Memorial Award from the Royal Glasgow Institute in 1998. She exhibits her paintings widely throughout the United Kingdom.
Using recognisable subject matter Jane employs an intense realism in her paintings, whether painting still life or portraits, always depicting her subjects with clarity and depth. She is particularly fascinated by the everyday objects of the past – candle snuffers, earthenware bottles and antique books. Attracted to the subtle play of light and reflections across each surface, Jane’s paintings are both intimate studies of everyday objects and reminders of the great works of the Old Masters.
