Scott Naismith
Scott Naismith
Glasgow based Scott Naismith graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 2000. He soon began developing an inimitable style that has led to his work being found in private and public collections worldwide. This has earned him a devoted, international following.
Taking his inspiration from the lochs, glens and skies of Scotland, Scott has developed a style of atmospheric abstraction. He seeks to depict not only the landscapes themselves, but also the unseen elements which have formed them. From molecular structures to atmospheric gases, he seeks to deconstruct the language of landscape painting. He brings these invisible forces of nature to the fore with a bold approach to colour theory.
With a palette that communicates both his emotional response to the scene and its atmosphere, Scott vigorously applies various layers to the canvas, sometimes blocking the composition in with spray paint before working with a combination of acrylic and oils to represent the inherently fast changing light that illuminates the Scottish landscape. These bold and often elevated interpretations of familiar scenery ensure that the viewer can’t help but see the world as Scott does, with a great deal of optimism and hope.
