Scottish artist Ellis O’Connor is a Contemporary Landscape Artist living on the Outer Hebridean Island of North Uist. Ellis works in the field of painting and drawing.
The dynamic energy to be seen in the paintings are Ellis’ response to observed changes in the landscape. In order to immerse herself in the environment, she makes much of the artwork on site. This is where extreme weather and the elements find their way into the pieces a method that she describes as almost performative.
Some of the pieces made on paper on site become the basis for larger works on canvas painted back in the studio. Here, Ellis usually works with oil paint. She builds up the surfaces using natural substances like sand and dried seaweed. Ellis O’Connor hopes that her work will give people a chance to connect with the landscape and respect the nature that surrounds us. This is to then cultivate a deeper understanding and in turn inspire others to make a difference.
