Susan Brown, based in Huddersfield, has a background in both Art and Design and Interior Architecture. She has continued to explore the relationship between the contrasting forces of the natural and the man-made throughout her career. She is the recipient of many art prizes and awards for her paintings including. These include The Laing Art Competition; Hunting Art Prize, Regional Winner; Penrose Purchase Prize 2005 and the Singer & Friedlander Sunday Times Watercolour Competition 2001 in which she was a finalist.
Susan finds endless inspiration in cityscapes and urban environments. She hopes to convey the awe-inspiring majesty of historic structures and the sense of shared appreciation in being immersed in the crowds that seem drawn to them also.
Susan works in Mixed Media. She chooses to work with material best suited to communicating the patterns, rhythms and formulae that excite her the most. Her paintings are brought to life by expressive mark making and an innate sense of scale and structure.
