Scottish artist Nicole Stevenson studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art. She has been working as a professional artist for over 30 years. Nicole currently lives and works from her home near Edinburgh.
Nicole has always been inspired by travel and time spent beside the sea and other bodies of water. She states that her paintings are illusions of a life spent scrying into the sparkle of water in harbours, canals and the ocean.
Nicole spends a great deal of time in the places she finds interesting. She produces small watercolour and ink paintings, sketches and photographs for reference. She then works in the studio on heavy, stretched watercolour paper, building up layers of watercolour, collage, acrylic and inks. Her paintings are constructed in a way that imply dimensionality, as ambient light moves over the surface of each piece the eye can discover different motifs and design elements, drawing the viewer deeper into the composition and immersing them in the atmosphere of a specific location.
